Report – Newcastle Make Contact For Winger But Fee Is Massive As Club Is Keen To Keep

The Mirror’s David Maddock is reporting that Jurgen Klopp is willing to give Welsh winger Harry Wilson an expanded role at Anfield this season.

He also reports that Klopp will not allow the youngster to go out on loan and that it will take a bid of £25m to prise him from Liverpool.

Wales Online earlier reported that Liverpool would accept a bid of £15m for Wilson. We thought that was a bit low as earlier in the summer the reported fee was over £20m.

The fee is not surprising as Wilson is a top young British talent and a fee of this amount is about what you would expect. What is surprising is that Wilson remains a part of Klopp’s plans for this coming season.

While he has started 4 preseason games thus far, we just don’t see Wilson getting into that Liverpool team too often. According to Maddock, Klopp is well aware that Wilson is skeptical of getting a shot at first-team football at Anfield.

Maddock reports that Klopp understands that Wilson is ready to move on for first-team football. Though he feels that giving the youngster a lot of preseason time will help convince him that he is in his plans.

He has done that but players like Sadio Mane and Mo Salah are yet to feature for the Reds this season due to extended rest from appearing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The report also states that Newcastle have made contact over the player but have yet to make a bid. Newcastle are also heavily linked to Allan Saint-Maximin of Nice and Jarrod Bowen of Hull City who play in the position as Wilson though all three are very different types of players.
