According to a report by Matt Atherton in the Daily Express, Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin has told his teammates that he will join Newcastle United.
There have been no further reports of a bid having been made after the original £14m was rejected this past Wednesday.
Though yesterday did have some significant developments as the Sun reported that Newcastle were going to meet Nice’s demands of £20m for the player.
Saint-Maximin was also left out of Nice’s preseason match against Boavista on Wednesday negotiations for the player seemingly continued.
There was also a report out of Italy that Saint-Maximin preferred Newcastle over Milan and the report also mentioned that he liked Steve Bruce.

There seemed to be increments of information leaking out about this deal that sounded quite promising.
But we know how Newcastle love to quibble over a few million pounds and how many transfers that policy has ended up killing.
Yesterday we saw a renewed link with Liverpool winger Harry Wilson and wondered if this was due to a roadblock in the deal for Saint-Maximin.
If may very well have been. Despite all the positive updates on a deal for the French winger, today we see what could be seen as a major setback.
Just now OGC Nice has announced their squad for their preseason match at Cardiff. Allan Saint-Maximin has been added to the group that will be flying to Wales for tomorrow’s friendly.

This could signal that negotiations have in fact broken down for the Nice winger. We hope that the deal has not collapsed due to a few million pounds this late in the transfer window.
If so, Newcastle must move quickly for either Liverpool’s Harry Wilson or Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen.
