Newcastle set to finalise 2nd signing after personal terms agreed and medical completed – report

Newcastle United are set to finalise the signing of free agent Kyle Scott following his release from Chelsea at the end of last season, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that Scott, 21, has agreed personal terms and completed a medical ahead of joining the Magpies in a two-year deal that is set to be announced today (Thursday).

It is understood that the midfielder will become Newcastle’s second signing of the summer after Joelinton’s arrival was confirmed earlier this week and the Tyneside club sees the USA youth international as someone with the potential to play in the first-team in the future.

OPINION

It remains to be seen whether or not Scott will ever produce what is expected of him in the Newcastle senior squad but it was certainly worth the club’s time to sign the versatile midfielder. Scott has the ability to play in central, defensive and attacking midfield roles and he has good pedigree having risen through the academy at Chelsea. Scott has limited experience in senior football having only ever made one appearance for the London giants but he did have a loan spell at Dutch second-tier side Telstar in the first half of last season which would have no doubt aided his development. Now it is down to the Newcastle coaches to help continue Scott’s development. At the age of 21, it’s disappointing that he has played so little first-team football but maybe that is something that’s on the cards for him at St James’ Park in the not-so-distant future.
