Brazilian journalist shares development in Newcastle pursuit of Marrony – Transfer Talk

Porto have joined Newcastle United and Sporting CP in the race to sign Vasco da Gama forward Marrony, according to Lucas Pedrosa.

The Brazilian journalist, who reports on Vasco for UOL’s Band, claims that it is now a three-horse race to sign 20-year-old Marrony, although no offer has been made for him at this stage.

Portuguese newspaper Record has recently reported that Newcastle are in advanced negotiations to sign Marrony while Sporting are unsure about Vasco’s £10.7million asking-price.

Porto’s interest in Marrony is surely a concern for Newcastle. Although Sporting are in the hunt for the 20-year-old, they might not firm up their interest with an offer based on their stance over Vasco’s valuation. That means that Marrony’s next destination could be between Newcastle and Porto. The Portuguese giants have a great history of welcoming Brazilian players to Europe. Eder Militao, Alex Sandro, Hulk, Anderson and Philip are good examples of players who have risen to prominence at Porto before moving on to some of the biggest clubs in European football and Marrony could also see them as a stepping stone in his bid to join one of Europe’s top sides. Newcastle have just signed Joelinton but that might not be enough to convince Marrony that St James’ Park is the best option for him, unless of course more money is involved. Porto are not the richest team in the world but they are a team that can be blown away so easily in the transfer market.
