Newcastle have smashed their record transfer in signing Brazilian striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim for reportedly £40m.
This is their first transfer of the summer and comes very late in the game. Newcastle are again way behind in their recruitment and have a lot of lost time to make up for.
We are glad that Joelinton has signed and he seems like a great young man. We are still furious with Mike Ashley for his continual negligence in running this club.
As with all things Newcastle, this signing has seemingly split the fan base with some thrilled to get the 22-year-old on board, while others have been so beaten down by Mike Ashley’s running of the club they can hardly muster any feelings of joy whatsoever.
There is a subset of the latter group of fans who have taken to Twitter to voice their continued frustration with Newcastle United under Mike Ashley despite the record signing.
Here is some of the negative reaction to the Joelinton signing. To be fair, they are not slating the player as much as airing their frustration and skepticism for the owner of this club.

Seriously though, everyone banging on about #nufc signing Joelinton- don’t tell me signing him for only a few quid more than the Perez income will pacify the sheep!? The only news I want to hear coming out of NUFC is that Mike Ashley has gone, even if that takes double relegation pic.twitter.com/tW75AyRjeJ

If #Joelinton is actually a canny signing and bangs goals in its always gonna gonna feel dead bitter since #Ashley threw cash at Steve Bruce but not Benitez… #NUFC #JOELINTON #transfereecordsmashed #again

I genuinely feel sorry for Joelinton, 1st big game at St.James park is going to be like wtf is this, 20,000 fans (we’ll never get full boycott) shouting about a fat bastard that needs to get out of our club #NUFC @nufctrust

I’m excited about Joelinton.
I’m livid about Ashley & the lies we’ve been fed. #NUFC

Negative NET spend again! The savings from Ayoze £30m plus wages, Rafas wages, Rondons wages equates to more than the Joelinton £40m. Ashley financial trickery works again on our fans…#NUFC #NUFCTakeover #ashleyout

Seeing so many people played yet again by #NUFC signing Joelinton is the reason #Ashleyout is still in charge. Don’t be fooled, to get you to renew season tickets, he needed a statement (ish) signing…and there you all are..everything is forgiven, #AshleyIn pic.twitter.com/g8G4Fbftgm

#nufc only time I will see joelinton play is away from home

NUFC have FINALLY broken the transfer fee record for Joelinton and I really, really don’t care. Normally I’d be looking at stats, videos etc. With this record breaking transfer – nothing.
What has Mike Ashley done to me? ?????? #NUFC

I remember the excitement and optomism that a new record signing or a new no 9 would bring to this place. The fact is players at this club are just a piece of Sports Direct merchandise. We know Ashley has no intention of moving this club forward, survive and exist that’s it #nufc

How does Mike Ashley give Steve Bruce 40m but refused to give any sort of transfer funds to @rafabenitezweb a manager with a lot better creditably and bigger long term plans than Bruce will ever have no wonder the #NUFC are fed up with Ashley’s handling of the club #AshleyOut
