Alan Shearer has delivered a message to Newcastle United record signing Joelinton.
The Brazilian was unveiled as a Toon player on Tuesday, as reported by the BBC, becoming the first signing of the Steve Bruce era.
And Magpies legend Shearer has wasted little time in wishing the 22-year-old well via his personal Instagram.
As quoted in the Chronicle (13.09), he said: “Welcome and good luck in the Black and White shirt”.
As far as blessings go, they don’t get more prestigious on Tyneside than one from Alan Shearer. The Toon legend is the quintessential Geordie number nine, and although his message is short and sweet, it is also an important rite of passage for any player hoping to follow in his footsteps. Joelinton’s signing is a clear message of intent from Newcastle. Whether it is a sign of things to come, or a means of placating a frustrated fanbase, bringing in the Brazilian shows that the Toon Army mean business in what little time remains in the summer transfer window. His addition shouldn’t be enough to quieten fans entirely, but at the very least it means that United have a goalscorer going into the new season. As for the player himself, his average of two shots on goal per game last term in Germany, as well as 1.5 key passes [Whoscored], show he is a danger man, and one capable of lighting up St. James’ Park.
