Young Matty Longstaff Speaks Of His Big Brother Sean

The Chronicle have a report out with some comments by our young Geordie midfielder Matty Longstaff. Matty got to appear with brother Sean in the win against West Ham this past Saturday.

When they were both interviewed together after the game, Sean’s face seemed to light up when speaking of this younger brother Matty. They seem a really close family and that bond surely will help in keeping Sean at Newcastle for far beyond just this season.

Matty also speaks so highly of his older brother and he is very proud of the monumental steps Sean has taken in his career in since breaking into the Newcastle first team halfway through last season.

This is what Matty has said about playing with Sean on Saturday:

“You dream of it.

“We played in the Checkatrade together, and if someone had said we’d play this pre-season for the first team, I wouldn’t have believed them.

“It was a proud moment for the family back home watching.”

Matty also spoke of how proud all of the family are of Sean and what he accomplished last season:

To be honest, even watching him at Kilmarnock and Blackpool on his loan moves, I was always watching him there.

“Last season he broke through at Newcastle.

“As a family, we couldn’t be prouder, but as a player, I think he showed how good he is.”

He certainly is correct that Sean showed how good of a player he is. So good that this entire summer he has been linked with a big money move to Manchester United.

We hope that the strong ties between the brothers and being local lads will help keep Sean at Newcastle for years to come. With young Matty coming through the academy, the prospect of having both of them partnering in midfield has to be something they have dreamed of for a long time.
