Steve Bruce Speaks About New Signing Joelinton And Some Pictures Of His Big Day

Here are a few pictures that have been tweeted out of our new record signing Joelinton who has signed on a massive six-year deal. So those reports about him wanting just a three-year deal were way off the mark as he signs for double that.

The official website has produced some comments that Steve Bruce has made about our new Brazilian number 9. We like the sound of that.

“The kid’s got an exciting time ahead of him. He’s a smashing young player and we’re obviously delighted to get him. It’s been going on for a little bit now, so to get him is great for everybody.

“He’s got everything that a modern-day player wants. He’s big, strong and athletic, and of course he’s got age on his side too which is vitally important.

“He’s learned the history and wanted it (the number nine shirt), and that’s always a big shirt to fill. But in his eyes, it was ‘bring it on – it’s what I’m here for’. He’s risen to that challenge, and I’m sure he will be a big, big favourite of the supporters. He’s got an incredible work-rate about him, he’s got a really good humility about him, and all the attributes a top striker needs.”

It seems he really wanted the number 9 shirt so let’s hope he can handle the pressure.

Joelinton and Bruce– are they out celebrating?

This is a big first step for the club to get this squad ready for the upcoming season. There was also news today that Isaac Hayden may be staying at the club this summer after all. Does that qualify as “like a new signing”?

Overall today has been a very good day but the club must not rest on their laurels. This is a positive first step but they have taken so many steps backward since the end of the season that have a lot of catching up to do.

We hope the reports of two more to come in this week are true though there has been no concrete links of who the next ones will be. We do like the players we have been linked with recently. Today we saw three more players in Vasca da Gama’s Marrony, Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe, and Augsburg’s Philipp Max.

The club have a lot of work to do and just two and a half weeks to do it. So they must go to work and bring in at least 4-5 more signings. It’s going to be a tough ask for Lee Charnley but he must get it done.
