We have just reported that Joelington has been spotted at St. James’ park getting a tour of the ground.
And with Steve Bruce now back from China we should soon see the formal announcement coming from the club with some pictures of the player and the manager.
Not sure what the fee will be (£35M – £45M?) but it will be a record for the club and it’s spent on a young and extremely promising 22-year-old Brazilian striker so we hope he’s an excellent acquisition.
The problem with the signing is that the Brazilian sees this as a stepping-stone to move to a bigger club in England like one of those in the Premier League.
When Rafa was here, he was clear that Newcastle would no longer be a stepping stone but the Bruce now the manager we probably revert back to being a mid-table club at best until Mike Ashley is forced out of the club.
This will be an excellent signing for the club but we need at least one more striker brought in plus a central midfielder and a couple of full-backs.
We are also keeping our fingers crossed that Isaac Hayden elects to stay at the club – maybe on a new improved contract – but we have little new news on that.
Not sure why Steve Bruce is looking at center-backs which seems the last position we need to strengthen but it also looks like he will play five at the back with three center-backs in the backline.
