At the time, everything was uncertain as to the 27-year-old’s situation with parent club Guangzhou Evergrande. The player seemed to want to stay with Sporting Lisbon where he spent last season on loan but still had six months left on his deal with the Chinese club.
Also, the Portuguese club seemed resigned to the fact that they were not going to be able to offer him competitive wages if he did become available.
Gudelj has been released from the remainder of his contract with Guangzhou Evergrande and is has immediately flown to Spain to sign for Sevilla.
Here is footage of him arriving in Spain as he looks to complete his move.
Sevilla could either smash it in LaLiga next year or become like the football manager team you had when you opted not to switch clubs and give yourself millions in transfer funds.

The player will become Sevilla’s tenth signing this summer as they try to upstage their rivals Real Betis who have just signed Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir for just €17m. Fekir was priced out of a move to Liverpool last summer.
Newcastle have still yet to make a signing this summer but reportedly have three in the pipeline for this week.
We have our doubts as to whether Lee Charnley has it in him to work on more than one deal at a time, but we would be happily surprised if he does.
