The Sun’s Alan Nixon is reporting that Steve Bruce is very interested in bringing Preston North End centre-half Ben Davies to Tyneside this summer.
This is what Alan Nixon is reporting about the Preston academy product:
Bruce is keen on classy Preston centre-half Ben Davies as he plans some personal input into the players who come in.
Bruce was a huge admirer of Davies, 23, in his spell in charge at Championship level and now he has the cash to make a move.
This news has not gone over well at Deepdale as indicated by the tweet below.
I don’t wanna bring bad news at this late stage of the night but…

Since moving from primarily being deployed as a left-back to centre-half two years ago, Davies has excelled at Preston. It seems that Steve Bruce is a big admirer of the player who would most likely not command too high of a fee.
Were not quite sure if he would be a first teamer at Newcastle initially. However, if Bruce is looking to utilize the 3-5-2 formation he used in yesterday’s pre-season match against West Ham United, Davies may be a good pick-up as a squad player for depth.
With Federico Fernandez having only one year left on his contract and Ciaran Clark due to turn 30 in September, this might not be a bad move by Steve Bruce. Maybe buying Davies now but loaning him back to Preston like we did with Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles at Nottingham Forest would turn out to be some good business.
