Report – Newcastle In Shock Move For Available Spurs Star

The Daily Star are reporting in an exclusive that Steve Bruce is looking to bring Spurs left-back Danny Rose to Newcastle as his first signing.

So this is how we imagine that the Daily Star came to this report. The journalist asked himself in a hypothetical if Steve Bruce would want Danny Rose at Newcastle.

The conclusion the journalist came to was – well, of course. That is basically the substance of this story as there is no indication that this deal is even a remote possibility.

This is what Harry Pratt writes in his report:

New Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has already identified the left-back position at St James’ Park as one that needs addressing urgently – and would love a player of Rose’s calibre.

The England defender, 29, has stated he could be on his way from North London – and will consider all options ahead of next month’s transfer deadline.

So Newcastle need a left-back and Danny Rose has been widely reported to be leaving Tottenham this summer. There is the exclusive report from the Daily Star.

Danny Rose– Steve Bruce or the Champions League?

The report goes on to suggest that it would take some convincing for Mike Ashley to sanction a deal for the 29 year old England international. But that if Ashly would sanction the deal, it would go a long way in convincing the Toon Army that Ashley is right behind his manager.

This is what Pratt adds in the story:

Whether Bruce, whose appointment as Rafa Benitez’s successor has angered so many of the Toon Army, can cajole owner Mike Ashley to part with a similar amount for Rose is another matter.

But the Geordies are desperate to flex some financial muscle in the market to ease the discontent surrounding the club.

Landing Rose, capped 27 times by England, would be a statement of intent – and show that Ashley is at least backing his new boss.

There are other potential problems to overcome.

Rose enjoyed a successful campaign on loan with Newcastle’s bitter enemies Sunderland in 2011-12 – and remains something of a cult figure at the Stadium of Light.

Yes, I’m sure the fact that Danny Rose spent time on loan with Sunderland eight years ago would scupper this deal.

How about the fact that Danny Rose will have options galore with Champions League clubs able to offer him astronomical wages?

It is Sunday after all.
