The Sun are reporting that Newcastle are chasing Burnley starlet Dwight McNeil. The speedy left-winger started 19 games for the Clarets last term.
He was able to bag 3 goals and added 5 assists in 26 total appearances in his first foray in the Burnley first team. The Rochdale born youngster left Manchester United for Turf Moor in 2014.
Dwight McNeil– priority for Newcastle transfer team
Newcastle were linked with the McNeil this past April in a Star exclusive.
This is what the Sun’s Alan Nixon has written about Newcastle’s interest in the youngster:
Newcastle want to grab Burnley’s £30million-rated starlet Dwight McNeil to kick-start Steve Bruce’s new era.
The Toon plan a signing spree and speedy winger McNeil is on their hitlist as they look for an injection of pace.
McNeil, 19, is valued highly by the Clarets after his sensational first season, following his decision to leave Manchester United to make his own way.
The Toon want to pay about £15m for McNeil, already a Spurs target and on Juventus’ watch list. So it is shaping up as a first battle for boss Bruce.
The deal has been a priority for the Newcastle transfer team for some time but they also have targets for other positions.
It does appear that Newcastle are very interested in the young winger. However, there is little chance of capturing McNeil for just £15m. With the player on both Spurs’ and Juventus’ transfer lists it may be hard to tempt McNeil to Tyneside.
