Newcastle supporters haven’t had much to cheer about in recent weeks after the exits of Ayoze Perez and Rafa Benitez, but Magpies midfielder Jonjo Shelvey put a smile on the faces of many Magpies fans during the first-half against West Ham on Saturday. The Magpies’ latest pre-season friendly saw them take on the Hammers and they went into the break 1-0 up thanks to Yoshinori Muto. While the Japanese forward got the goal, it was Shelvey that had fans buzzing. The 27-year-old midfielder made several fantastic passes, with one long ball to Elias Sorenson particularly being worthy of any highlight reel, and it’s fair to say he got the praise he deserved on social media. One Newcastle fan called Shelvey an elite tier player while another dubbed him absolute class. The 27-year-old lost his place as a guaranteed starter under Rafa Benitez last season, he made only 16 appearances in the Premier League, and he seems is motivated when it comes to breaking into Steve Bruce’s first-team plans.
