Longstaff Keen To Work With Steve Bruce Despite Manchester United Interest

Sky Sports have a report that it is their understanding that Steve Bruce sees Sean Longstaff as key to his plans at Newcastle.

They also report that Longstaff is excited about Bruce’s appointment and can’t wait to impress the new head coach.

This is what is being reported by Sky Sports:

Steve Bruce is due to sit down with Sean Longstaff in the coming days and tell him he is a key part of his plans for next season, Sky Sports News understands, amid continued interest from Manchester United.

Sky Sports News has been told Longstaff is excited at the prospect of Bruce taking charge and is desperate to impress the new manager and become a Newcastle regular.

This is further good news that another key member of the squad is putting the problems of the past few months in the rearview mirror and getting on with his job.

We heard from captain Jamaal Lascelles earlier today as well as Matt Ritchie and Federico Fernandez yesterday. All of whom expressed excitement that the manager situation has been sorted.

Sean Longstaff and Jamaal Longstaff– important players for Steve Bruce

Sky Sports still reports that Manchester United are interested in the 21-year-old Geordie midfielder. But interest seems to have waned a bit since Newcastle United let them know that it would cost at least £50m for him.

The report does say that Sean maintains an interest in speaking with the Red Devils if a transfer fee can be agreed but are quick to note that he will not push for a move.

We believe that Sean Longstaff still wants to achieve his dream of playing at St James Park. While reports that he was initially upset with the departure of Rafa are possibly true, he seems to be willing to give Steve Bruce a chance.

The worry is that Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar have been conspicuously quiet, especially Martin, and both did not play a part in yesterday’s friendly with Wolves.

We hope they are both willing to give Steve Bruce a chance as they are very important members of the squad. In particular Martin Dubravka, who is the only Premier League quality goalkeeper at the club currently.
