Newcastle Lose To Wolves In First Preseason Match

In a much quieter second half, Newcastle shored up their defense and brought on a few of their youngsters for a good run out. Though Wolves took their foot off the pedal a bit as well

Freddie Woodman, Javier Manquillo, and Federico Fernandez came on to start the second half replacing Karl Darlow, Jamie Sterry, and Jamaal Lascelles.

Newcastle looked a bit better in this half but still lacked anything up front.

Roland Aarons, Ki Sung-yeung, and youngster Kelland Watts came on for Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey, and Ciaran Clark in the 58th minute.

Elias Sorensen– had decent runout with the first team

Then in the 63rd minute, Newcastle brought in the youth for a good 30 minute run out.

Tom Allan, Owen Bailey, Matty Longstaff and Elias Sorensen all came on with Jacob Murphy, Achraf Lazaar, Jack Colback and Yoshinori Muto making their exits.

Wolves had a couple of decent chances in the 67th and 70th minute with defender Kelland Watts making a good block on the latter.

Wolves scored their 4th on an unfortunate own goal by Tom Allan on a deflection from a Wolves corner that was headed in.

Transfer targets Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar, and Sean Longstaff all failed to make an appearance with could further fuel their links elsewhere. Though there are legitimate reasons why they may not have been involved.

Fabian and Martin arrived back to Newcastle late due to international duty while Sean is still recovering from his knee injury.

We have to remember this is just the first preseason friendly, though it is concern that only three remain. This squad is in dire need of additions up front and at full back. It looks to us as though at least 6 incomings are needed with a few of the players who played today going in the other direction.
