Newcastle United are set to secure the signing of midfielder Kyle Scott as early as Monday, according to Football Insider.
The reputable football outlet claim that the former Chelsea starlet will sign for the Magpies, even though negotiations were started by former manager Rafael Benitez.
Football Insider report that the 21-year-old has agreed to sign a three-year deal at St James’ Park, and could finalise a move as early as Monday.
Scott, who operates as a central midfielder was released by fellow Premier League side Chelsea in June, after only making one senior appearance at Stamford Bridge.
The USA youth international will become Newcastle’s first signing this summer, with the Magpies the only Premier League club yet to sign a player in this window.
Finally, Newcastle are set to make a signing. It is most likely not the big name many of their fans will have wanted or even expected but at least the Magpies are now trying to take advantage of the window. Scott arrives in the North East with a lack of Premier League experience, and as a player that will surely struggle to earn game time at St James’ Park. The midfielder failed to make an impact on loan in the Dutch second-tier at SC Telstar last season, so the move to Newcastle would be a massive step up for him to make. The 21-year-old scored twice in 14 appearances, a stat that would need to be drastically improved on if he was to earn first-team football. Newcastle are still going ahead with a move despite it being Benitez who set the wheels in motion for the move, which shows they still rate the youngster highly. Magpies fans will have surely have appreciated the move much more if the Spaniard was still at the club, but as one of the final pieces of the Benitez legacy, fans may well be more open to Scott’s arrival.
