Jamaal Lascelles has spoken to NUFC TV after the squad’s first training session in Nanjing.
This is a bit of what he has said:
“We can’t dwell on us not having a manager yet. You’d rather know than not know, but, again, we can’t control it.
“It’s my job, and the job a few of the other boys, to make sure everyone’s on it so whenever a manager does come in, we’re ready for whatever instructions he decides to give us.
“Wherever we are, we’ll always do our best, whatever the circumstances are.
“As professionals, that’s all we can do. Ben’s putting on some good sessions for us.”
These are some good words from the Newcastle skipper. He has always shown great leadership at the club especially through the darker times.
Jamaal Lascelles– his leadership is crucial right now
These qualities will be needed now and he will have some experience with times like these. He was one of the few Newcastle players to show fight and determination during our relegation season under Steve McClaren.
It was his leadership ability during that tumultuous season which ultimately ended with him being awarded the captain’s armband under Rafa Benitez the following season.
We are sure that deep down inside Lascelles is a bit worried about the state of the club. He may even be letting his feelings discretely known as he is not one to keep quiet when things are going wayward.
He will however not be letting any of that get in the way of his responsibility as a senior member and leader of the squad. He will be a big help to both Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn with keeping the lads focused on the preparations for the season ahead.
