Former Juventus Defensive Midfielder Is Now Available

Former Juventus and current Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina gave an interview in Foot Mercato over the weekend insisting that he is available to leave this summer. This apparently has not sat too well with Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttl as Lemina has now been left out of the squad for their preseason tour.

This is what Lemina said to the French outlet over the weekend:

“Today, I am at Southampton, I still have another 3 years of contract. But it is true that I do not rule out the possibility of seeing something else. The last 4 months have not been easy for me, with my injury. The coach put his team together. I want to start afresh. So why not leave.”

When asked if Southampton were willing to make him available this summer, Lemina responded:

“We have very good discussions with the club. We are in agreement. If I don’t feel good in this project, I can leave. Otherwise, the the club is counting on me, there is no problem. They are giving me the opportunity to be able to go elsewhere.”

When asked if there were any interest from other clubs that he was aware of, Lemina said:

“We are working on it with my agents, we are not putting ourselves under any pressure. We are waiting truly for the best project, the best offer. We look at it day by day. For the moment, I am at Southampton and I am working the best I can to be the best possible form.”

There is news tonight in the Metro that both Manchester United and Arsenal have submitted enquiries into the Gabonese international.

Lemina joined Southampton from Juventus two summers ago in an £18m move. He has been very inconsistent in his time at St Marys but is a definite talent.

This past season he missed four months of the season from January to April with an abdominal injury. Upon his return, he failed to get back into the Southampton side.

For a reasonable fee of between £15-20m, Lemina could be a decent shout for Newcastle. Especially as Mo Diame has left on a free transfer and with Isaac Hayden looking to leave the club as well this summer.
