BZG Issue Third Communique On Takeover – But It’s All Very Strange

BZG have issued their third communique – this time through tweets from Geordie reporter in the UAE – Peter Redding.

Peter had said there would be a communique last week and he says he has met with the group and issued the tweets as an update to the takeover.

They say they have completed every aspect of the takeover and it seems that Peter met with BZG recently.

And local reporters have confronted Peter on where he is getting his information – so it’s getting a little bit messy.

Neil reported on this news earlier this morning and for the purposes of completeness here are Peter Redding’s tweets today:

There are some good bits in there from Peter, but the line that stands out is this piece:

“The current owners have cooperated amicably throughout this process and if a deal is not forthcoming it will not be due to lack of effort from both parties.”

If that line had not been in there, we would be a lot more positive.

But it seems to be cover for Mike Ashley is a deal does not go through and because of that line, we think this is a prelude to announcing that the deal will not go through.

And if that happens, the question will be – why not?

We need to know what Mike Ashley seems still unwilling to sell the club.

The Chronicle are reporting there are two more groups interested so maybe one of them is Ashley’s preferred buyer – but that’s a long shot.

And the Chronicle – who seem to be acting these days as a PR group for Ashley – have not reported this news at the time of writing this.

Why not?

This reminds me of the communique deliver by Peter Kenyon just before his bid failed.

“I know I speak for both of us in that we continue to share a serious determination to finalize the agreement we have to suit both parties as soon as possible in the new year.”

“We have both spent many months discussing the parameters of a final deal and as you know we have also invested heavily in time and money on our various legal and financial advisors.”

“I appreciate the time and effort committed to the detailed discussions by your advisors, lawyers, club, and, of course, yourself.”

“I fully respect your desire to ensure the next owners of Newcastle United understand the club, football, and have the appropriate financial resources.”

“And I am delighted that you think the investor group led by myself is the best fit.”

“On my side, I would like to personally assure you that I am committed to concluding our deal as soon as possible.”

“And, while we are both perhaps frustrated that we have not progressed as quickly as we would have wished, I would like to express personal gratitude for your patience and integrity in this matter.”

Notice in both communique’s they are attempting to make Ashley look good.

This summer has been extraordinary, and Newcastle fans have been kept in the dark on everything.

Hopefully, there will be a takeover – but from our reading of the tea leaves, the BZG attempt will not succeed.

But we’ve been wrong before – so there’s always hope.
