The Daily Mail are reporting that Patrick Vieira wants to speak to Newcastle United about the vacant manager position.
It was reported earlier in the Sun that Vieira was on the Newcastle managerial shortlist.
This new information now attributes the interest in the talks to Vieira.
Vieira has a contract that runs until 2021 and Nice are said to be desperate to keep him. He was lined to the Lyon job earlier this year and a report in the Sun stated that he had some sort of a release clause in his contract. This could prove beneficial for Newcastle.
Mike Ashley will most likely not want to pay any compensation for a new manager when there is a plethora of them currently available for nothing.
With his goal being survival each year so he can plaster Sports Direct advertisements in every conceivable area at St James Park, it is most likely that he will appoint an out of work retread manager.
Patrick Vieira– uncertain of working under Mike Ashley
With the treatment of Rafa Benitez, we also have to worry about the likelihood of any manager with any ambition joining Newcastle.
The Daily Mail had this to say about Vieira and the recent departure of Rafa Benitez:
However, Vieira has some reservations about working under owner Mike Ashley after seeing Benitez walk away due to the Newcastle owners’s lack of ambition.
However, it does appear that Vieira is interested in the Premier League and the Newcastle job is just a better job than the one he currently has at Nice. So maybe he will weigh his options.
The Daily Mail also wrote the following about Vieira’s future goals:
It is understood that his long-term aim is to be a manager in the Premier League and he is waiting for the right opportunity to return to England.
Whether anyone can call Newcastle United the “right opportunity” at the moment is highly debatable.
As with the manager search in 2015, which Vieira was part of, this one will be very interesting. We just hope Mike Ashley can somehow, against all odds, get it right this time.
